Why Embroidery?
I can't even remember when I started embroidery
I think about the embroidery as I watch the sewing machine carve out stitches.
If I recall correctly, when I went to Summer Sonic,
one of Japan’s largest annual music festivals with my friends,
for years ago
Let's wear matching T-shirts
Why not make them handmade?
It must have been when someone said something like that.
Around that time, I saw Ame Talk, a famous comedy TV show in Japan.
Hakata Daikichi, a popular Japanese comedian said,
"I bought a special sewing machine and I'm embroidering now."
I think that's exactly what he said.
That was the inspiration behind my decision to start hand-sew cross-stitching.
Hand embroidery takes time.
Cross stitch itself is a relatively beginner-friendly technique.
Sewing itself is not a difficult task,
Anyway, time flies.
It can take a whole day to sew a 35mm square piece of embroidery.
However, the satisfaction when it was finished was incredible!

Embroidery is not good at reproducing the sharp lines of prints.
Because the threads are layered, the lines inevitably have thickness.
Delicate lines measured in millimeters and lines as thin as a hair will be crushed.
The number of colors that can be used simultaneously is limited to about 15.
Unlike DTF printing, it is not possible to reproduce an infinite number of colors.
Nevertheless, the three-dimensionality, depth and luster of the thread are something that only embroidery can possess.
And the sense of luxury and ownership that these create.
It's not just decoration, it's art that exists.
Embroidery is a technique that even Yves Saint Laurent was fascinated by.
Of course, their embroidery is nowhere near the level of his world.
But still, the moment the piece he put all his effort into was finished,
The adrenaline is still pumping.
<About CULMINATION>
CULMINATION is an indie embroidery apparel brand from Japan.
"If it doesn't exist for sale, then we should simply create it."
Embroidery started as a hobby,
After more than eight years of trial and error and technical refinement,
It took one shape.
We put our heart and soul into every single thread and stitch.
We only create clothes that convey something the moment you own them.
<As an Indie Brand...>
We operate our brand as a business,
but at the heart of it all is the spirit of free creation.
Rather than chasing marketing trends,
we shape each piece based on what we truly believe in.
Sometimes, we take inspiration from contemporary art,
and enjoy experimenting without boundaries.
Unlike major brands that prioritize mass production and speed,
we devote time and care to every detail,
especially in the design and embroidery work,
allowing our ideas to take shape slowly and thoughtfully.
At times, we go through countless trials and errors,
and it can take years to complete a single embroidery design.
What we create isn’t driven by efficiency,
but by a desire to leave a lasting impression.
We cherish the freedom that only an indie brand can offer,
and we will continue to move forward at our own pace.
